Mobile Applications Projects at RDC
Information Concealing

The fall 2008 sequence of WTS will begin with an an overview of current projects at the R&D Centre for Mobile Applications (RDC), running in collaboration with industrial sponsors (Nadace Vodafone, IBM, Vodafone). The unifying aspect of the upcoming mobile applications is their real-time awareness of network-user status and high interactivity. We discuss some of these concepts such as tracking or automated voice interaction.

The second part is going to discuss the paradigm of information concealing - a technique to allow publishing aggregate data without revealing their sensitive content, based on inserting repeats into the original string. We show that breaking concealing is computationally hard, and discuss other aspects. This work is inspired by the manner natural organisms protect and share vital information and may explain some phenomenons observed within DNA structure. This is joint work with M. Loebl, MFF CUNI, and Jenny Blamey, Bioscience Foundation, Chile.

Lukas Kencl obtained a Ph.D. degree in Communication Networks from Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland, in 2003, and a MSc. degree in Computer Science from Charles University, Prague, in 1995. Since May 2007 he is RDC Director. Previously, he was a Senior Researcher at Intel Research, Cambridge, UK (2003-6) and a Pre-Doc at the IBM Zurich Research Laboratory (1999-2003). His research focuses on novel interfaces, services and applications in mobile wireless networks and on architecture and performance optimization of networking systems.

He regularly publishes at established networking conferences and journals, is a co-inventor of multiple network technology patents and holder of several industrial grants (Vodafone, IBM).
